Below is a blog post from August 14th, 2014 that I am re-posting. In the past 1.5 years, our business has continued to grow and lives continue to be changed through our business model. I am humbled that my first book 25 to Life: Jailbreak Your 9-5 & Escape to Financial Freedom has made it’s way into the hands of tens of thousands of people, and more people than ever are taking control of their financial future through the wealth building profession of network marketing.

My Five Year Anniversary Of Purchasing My House

Today (August 14th, 2014) is a very exciting day! It marks 5 years officially as a homeowner, one of the biggest steps I ever made in my life.

I purchased my house August 14th,2009 at the age of 20. It was not an easy thing to do, not a lot of banks wanted to give a mortgage to a 20 year old fresh out of college, at a new job, and no long term work history. I was determined to either purchase the house by myself, or not at all. Some may call me stubborn for not wanting help from my parents (who offered to co-sign when it looked like I might not get financing), but I call it independent 😉

I held out as bank after bank turned down my application… and I had come to peace that if it was meant to be, I would get financing on it.

Sure enough, late evening on the 7th and final day for conditions to be removed, a smaller bank that usually works with farmers decided to offer me a mortgage, at a short three year fixed term, and required 10% down. I was trying to get in at the minimum level of 5% to have a little extra cushion, but that was the offer I had on the table, so I took it. I had my house with 10% down (about $30,000 up front with closing costs, my entire life savings, after paying my two years college, student loan free)

Through my entire life, I have been ‘fiscally responsible’ (some just call me cheap) but I learned early on if I wanted to achieve something, I had to do it for myself, there wouldn’t be any handouts. If I wanted to go to college, I had to pay for it myself. I started working as soon as I could, and developed great savings habits that have helped put me in the scenario I am at today.

My three year term finished (Aug 2012), and I was very excited that through extra payments, I had paid an extra two years off, leaving me with only 20 more years on my 25 year mortgage! I figured at this rate, I could become debt free and own my home by my early-mid thirties, and life would be dandy.

A huge life transition happened for me in November 2011, as I moved from my role as an employee (personal trainer) into my own full time home based business with Young Living Essential Oils. I didn’t know it at the time, but this decision was one of the biggest and most influential moments of my life, as I ‘cut the ships’ as Napoleon Hill would say, of traditional job security, and relied fully on my own business.

Well, the past 2 3/4 years as a Young Living member have been some of the most transformational years of my life. I have since gotten married, created amazing friendships in my business and life, and surrounded myself with mentors and people who elevate who I am as a human.

So here we are, present day August 14th/2014, with the excitement of paying off my house in full, 20 years early, and becoming completely debt free at 25 years old.

Debt Free 2014

Standing outside the bank August 14th, 2014 with a cheque to pay off my mortgage

I don’t think the magnitude of this accomplishment really hit me till early this week, when I got to share this accomplishment with my team, and hear how many of their goals were along the same path, to becoming debt free.

I have had an amazing journey in the past few years, working in many different areas of my life.

For two years, I attended post secondary, where I paid $30,000+/year (tuition, lost wages, etc), and a lot of time investment, for my education and a fairly expensive piece of paper. I loved my time in college, and learned lots about myself and who I am (much of my learning was outside of the classroom!)

I transitioned into the job market at a great local personal training facility, and worked there for 2 1/2 years in my field of study, but as an employee, I had no leverage. No ability to earn income, without trading time for dollar. If I didn’t train clients, I didn’t earn money. My $30,000/year education, got me a job that would pay me about $30,000 a year, and after four years, basically back to par.

This is when I transitioned into the third segment of my life, away from an employee, into a business model with leverage built into it, and I worked hard to become a network marketing professional.

Through the next 2 1/2 years, I dedicated myself to my team, my company, my business, and have achieved great success. I used to be frustrated as a trainer, that no matter how hard I seemingly worked, I would always earn approximately as much as most other trainers. Finding myself in a profession and business where I could work harder/smarter and more effectively, and have no ceiling on my earning potential. March of this year, I achieved the rank of Crown Diamond with the company, which now pays me more per month, residually, than I used to make in a year as a personal trainer

My main purpose in this post was to share my story for those who have not heard it in full, so you can see how limitless the potential is when you shift your paradigm and move from traditional employment, to a home based business owner. There is no way, that I could have achieved these results as an employee.

I am blessed to be a part of a company that is focused on a high quality product, one that people would use regardless of any earning potential at all. Young Living has given me a financial situation I never would have believed possible, but this is really just the start of an even greater story.

See, the only way you ever succeed more in this profession, is by helping others succeed. I now have the massive pleasure, of helping thousands of other members build their own businesses and success, so they can see their life dreams come to fruition. What a wonderful way to be able to be of service and benefit so many people.

If you are reading this, and have never heard of network marketing, the benefits of the business model, and how you can create a four year career, instead of a forty year career/four year degree, you need to get your hands on a copy of The Four Year Career by Richard Brooke. If you are open minded and looking for something different than the traditional paradigm most people have been raised in, this is a must read.

Four Year Career YL

I have so many people to thank for their part in this monumental goal.

-I could not be here (literally) without my supportive parents, who taught me great life and financial lessons early on, even though I gave them a hard time for it as a youth, and didn’t truly appreciate their wisdom until I was an adult.

-My amazing team, who inspires me daily to become a better leader for them. I am more motivated than ever to help everyone achieve their goals and dreams in life!

-My amazing mentors who have touched my life and business in ways that are indescribable.

-My amazing wife Vanessa, who met me at a Young Living event in May 2012, back when I was still trying to figure out how to create a successful business. She has been by my side through the entire growth of this team, and a constant supporter and listening ear.

-I feel I was given a path that has led me to exactly where I am, where I am supposed to be. I have skills, desires, and a personality that is unique to me. Through highs and lows in the past, they have all led me on a perfect path to where I am today, with an amazing wife, family, and opportunities to bless many. I don’t think this path could happen by chance, but is part of a greater plan. I look at all of the ‘small’ decisions and changes in the past, and how influential they ended up being in my future.Colossians 3:17 says “And whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.” — And I want to give thanks today for the path that has been laid before me, and work on creating a brighter future for many more.

You owe it to yourself, to take the time to read the Four Year Career, to invest in yourself and your future, and see how you can transform your own life, and thousands of others around you.

Yours in abundance,

Adam Green
